In this episode, Mirjam Hannah Steinfeld is once again the guest on the podcast. The topic of this episode are the investigation proceedings under German criminal procedural law. A particular focus is on the public prosecutor's office and its tasks. Mirjam starts by explaining the different phases of criminal proceedings. She goes into detail on the role of the public prosecutor's office and highlights some particularities of the public prosecutors’ offices in Germany. Further, Christian and Miriam discuss which other authorities are involved in the investigation proceedings and their role vis-à-vis public prosecutors’ offices. Mirjam then explains the various ways in which the preliminary proceedings can be terminated. Finally, Mirjam addresses the role of defence lawyers, especially in pre-trial proceedings.
